Trends Spotted in Paris: Product Development Team attends the Maison Objet Show

Maison & Objet is a biannual international trade fair that highlights the latest trends in interior design, home decor, and lifestyle. Industry professionals attend in January and September to see the 2,000-plus exhibitors at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition center.

In January, we sent our product development team to the Maison Objet Show to gain global inspiration for Uttermost’s latest collections. The event uses Paris’s design and cultural reputation to spotlight emerging ideas and shape the future of international design.

Paris Trends Influencing the Design World

This year’s theme, “Past Reveals Future,” invited exhibitors to look to history as a starting point for new ideas for modern interior spaces. Exhibitions incorporated inspiration from Antiquity to Art Deco, an influential movement that began in Paris one-hundred years ago, that seamlessly brings history into modern interiors.

This year’s show also highlighted French artisanal craftsmanship in the Manufacturers of Excellence village. It showcased a refreshed take on old-school, ornate French style, but updated to feel modern for 2026, aiming to give designers fresh inspiration from a meaningful past. Glassmakers, marble craftsmen, weavers, and locksmiths were represented in the hall.

Key Product Development Trends Spotted at the Show

This year’s event showcased materials that engage the senses. Designers used natural elements and textures like clay, microcement, and fibrous wood that are visually striking, while also bringing warmth and personality to furniture and decor for many spaces.

Silhouettes were smooth with soft curves and sculptural lines. Designs felt purposeful versus just practical for both furniture and accent items like lighting. Pieces were designed for functionality while still appearing elevated, with subtle artistic touches that make interior spaces feel thoughtful and enriched.

Maison & Objet’s Designer of the Year, Harry Nuriev, showcased his work in a striking all-silver room. Known for crossing creative boundaries, he blends architecture, interior spaces, furniture, art, and fashion into a single point of view. Nuriev refers to his style as “Transformism,” observing how people live, then creating designs that feel unexpected and stand out in everyday life.

New Trends in Product Development Shaping Future Collections

We’ve brought these trends into our modern living spaces, pairing soft curves and natural textures that use a comfort-first approach, keeping functionality at the forefront.

Our development team continues to focus on intentional design and thoughtful details in each piece created. These trends aren’t limited to furniture. They’re incorporated into every category in our collections, including lighting and home accents.

Bold Color & Pattern Revival

Our product development team saw a lot of bold patterns and decorative lampshades, with animal prints making a comeback. Vibrant hues stood out, with designers pairing bold colors together. Overall, design appears to be shifting from minimal to a more expressive, personality-driven style. Some of these memorable duos we saw were:

  • Light blue paired with mauve
  • Vegetable and fruit motifs
  • Golden and amber tones
  • Abstract patterns

Decorative Texture & Details

Familiar materials were applied in fresh and different ways through distinctive finishes, thoughtful layering, and detailed embellishments. Luxury was added through craftsmanship, attention to detail, and touch. Standouts included:

  • Extensive use of unique trims
  • Fringed details and fuzzy upholstery
  • Texture layered with patterns
  •

Tradition is Back

Traditional design is making a return, but reimagined to feel fresh, current, and truly liveable. Sculpture pieces and vintage kitchen decor were given new life against a bold backdrop. Here are some familiar favorites reimagined:

  • Updated classic silhouettes in bold fabrics and trims
  • Antique-inspired case goods and upholstery styled using modern settings
  • Traditional mirrors and classic forms paired with contemporary rooms
  •
